Day 14: Salzburg and Boa and Uschi

Today the boys and I got up and went to the town of Salzburg in Austria.
It took us about an hour and a half to get there. We were speeding past the country side around at 140 to 150 km an hour. Most of the fields looked like they had already been planted. There were also a lot of green fields, but I did not know what they were. We had a walk about the city in the old downtown area. It was really beautiful just like the other downtown squares that I have seen. Lots of open air markets, eating places and lots of little shops. We went into one of the old churches, again it was something very different than our churches at home.

We had a lovely lunch sitting outside enjoying the summer like weather. What did I eat? Yes, more pork and dumplings. The dumplings are a little different in evey area.

After lunch we went up a very steep mountain side to the old fortress. We went up in a tram. We could have walked up but Klaus and I thought that it would take us an hour, so we decided not to. It was very different from the castle we had seen, but this was a practical fortress. I still can not get over how they built these huge places way up on a mountain side with only man power.

I think that I will ask Fredrick to give you a link so you can get the history from there.

Salzburg is also the place where Mozart grew up. The whole town is full of things with his face and name on it. They are very proud of the fact that he grew up there.

On our drive home we stopped at a lake called Chiemsee. Nothing was open there as it is not the season for being at the lake. They had a very little trailer park and lots of small hotels. Fredrick said that in the summer you can almost walk across the lake from boat to boat.

We came home and had a bite to eat and then went to the Pils Dr. for a few beers and to met freinds of Fredrick and Klaus. Their names are Boa and Uschi. Both of them are very nice, like everyone else they have introduced me to. It was really nice to have a "Voman" to talk with.

It was a nice end to another great day here.
