One of King Ludwig's Chateaus: Linderhof

Linderhof Palace, is one of King Ludwig's famous castles. He built four of them: Linderhof, Neuschwanstein, Nymphenburg and Herrenchiemsee.

We arrived there and had lunch on a sunny patio in front of the hotel. It was a wanderfully warm day.

When we bought the tickets at the booth outside of the palace garden, we thought they would gain us access to the palace, so we could look around. This did not prove to be the case, though. They apparently do not let tourists run around unattended within the palace - they have to be accompanied by a tour guide.

The lady responsible for guiding tourists through the palace slammed the gate in our face when we arrived, telling us that she already had a full complement. No amount of polite or impolite words would convince her that two more people wouldn't impede her tour. As it was getting late and we wanted to see some more of Ludwig's castles we didn't wait for the next tour, but returned the tickets.

I'm afraid Cheryl missed seeing Ludwig's artificial grotto, where he would have himself rowed around in a boat shaped like a swan - to the tunes of Wagner.
